Bihar’s Jardalu Mango Reaches USA

From Banka to the USA: How Bihar’s Jardalu Mango Just Took a Giant Leap Toward Global Markets

Bihar’s Mango Dream Has Wings—And It’s Flying to America!

Banka’s orchards are buzzing. Not with bees, but with a dream that just took off for the United States. And it smells like sweet, juicy Jardalu mangoes.

In a move that could redefine rural prosperity, 1500 kilograms of premium-quality mangoes were dispatched from Bihar’s Banka district to the USA. This isn’t just a fruit export—it’s a bold signal that Bihar’s farmers are stepping onto the global stage.

The Journey Begins in Dhobia Village

The mangoes didn’t just appear on the runway to America overnight. They were harvested from Bharatam Vatika, located in Dhobia Bandh village in Banka. This special orchard has become the face of Bihar’s first mango export pilot project.

The consignment will first reach Bengaluru for testing. Once cleared, it will head to the United States, bringing with it the distinct flavour of Bhagalpur’s iconic Jardalu mango.

If the Market Responds—A New Chapter for Farmers

According to District Horticulture Officer Niranjan Kumar, this trial is more than an experiment. If the Jardalu mango passes all quality checks and finds demand in American markets, farmers from the region could begin direct export from next year.

This means:

  • Better income for farmers

  • Bihar’s name in global fruit markets

  • A blueprint for export-driven rural transformation

The initiative is powered by APEDA and supported by local horticulture officials.

The Faces Behind the Fruit: Farmers and Partners

At the heart of this milestone are Shiv Bandhu (TunTun Singh) and Rajesh Rai, mango producers and exporters from Bharatam Vatika. Their collaboration with Craft Hand and Upaj Guru ensured this first-of-its-kind shipment to the US.

The flag-off event also saw presence from former MLA Sweety Sima Hembram, alongside district and block officials including Sudhir Kumar, Sujit Kumar, and progressive farmers like Umesh Yadav, Lalu Yadav, and Pankaj Kumar.

Why This Matters More Than You Think

This is bigger than mangoes.

It’s a signal that Bihar is changing its narrative—from out-migration to exports, from neglect to innovation. The world is beginning to taste the sweetness Bihar always had—through its people, its soil, and now, its Jardalu mangoes.

And if this pilot project succeeds, this success story will become a movement.

This Is Just the Beginning…

If the USA responds positively, next year could see large-scale Jardalu mango exports directly from Bihar’s orchards. And with it, the dawn of a new economic opportunity for thousands of farmers.
