Patna Takes Off in Style: New Terminal at Jayprakash Narayan Airport Now Operational!
Bihar just unlocked a new gateway to the skies—modern, magnificent, and deeply rooted in its heritage.
A Historic Day for Bihar’s Aviation
Today, June 3, marks a proud milestone for Bihar. The new terminal at Patna’s Jayprakash Narayan International Airport is now live and fully operational from 7 AM onwards. From longer queues and cramped spaces to world-class comfort and cutting-edge efficiency, flyers from Patna are stepping into a new era.
Inside the Terminal: Where Tradition Meets Technology
Spread across 65,150 sq. meters, the state-of-the-art terminal now handles 3,000 passengers during peak hours and features:
-
Five aerobridges
-
11 boarding gates
-
64 check-in counters
-
9 ATRS machines for smooth security
-
Digi Yatri gates for contactless travel
-
4 baggage conveyor belts in the arrivals zone
Passengers stepping in today experienced not just infrastructure, but a showcase of Bihar’s soul—from Nalanda-inspired architecture to traditional murals and carvings that turn every journey into an immersive cultural moment.
Parking & Entry Upgraded Too!
Reaching the terminal? It’s easier now. A dedicated flyover leads directly to the departure level, while arrivals exit from the ground floor.
The Multi-Level Car Park (MLCP) is also open from today with space for 1,100 vehicles, maintaining the same budget-friendly parking fees. Commuters will also benefit from a designated pick-up zone with clear time limits to avoid congestion.
Flight Movement: The Numbers Today
With 98 aircraft movements already managed today, the airport is operating smoothly under the new system. Air India Express flights to Hyderabad and Guwahati were among the first to operate from the new terminal.
Deputy General Manager Uma Shankar confirmed that while no international routes have been announced yet, airlines are expected to ramp up domestic services soon.
What’s Next?
The old terminal will soon be demolished, making way for more parking bays and four additional aerobridge bases. Once completed, the apron will support 11 aircraft, pushing Patna Airport’s capacity to an all-new high.
This expansion raises the annual passenger capacity from 25 lakh to 1 crore, a fourfold jump that reflects Bihar’s rising importance in India’s air traffic map.
