“Blackout Alert: Bihar Cities to Pause for 2 Minutes on May 7 – Here’s Why You Should Care”
Imagine the city going completely dark.
No traffic. No lights. Just a chilling siren that pierces through the silence. On May 7th, this will be reality across Patna, Begusarai, Barh, Barauni, and Purnia, as Bihar prepares for one of its largest-ever mock drills.
Under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ directive following the Pahalgam terror attack, these drills aim to test disaster response systems and public readiness in case of emergencies.
At exactly 6:58 PM, loud sirens will echo across 80 different locations in Patna alone. Within seconds, electricity will be cut off, throwing the city into complete darkness for 10 minutes.
Soon after, police vehicles and fire brigades will drive around with sirens blaring at key junctions like the Secretariat, Patna University, NIT, and the Reserve Bank, where fixed siren systems are already installed.
🚫 Traffic will be halted.
🔌 Power will be disconnected.
🚨 Siren will signal the start and end.
Even though this sounds intense, officials urge people not to panic.
According to District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh and SSP Avkash Kumar, this exercise isn’t just protocol — it’s preparedness for potential terror threats.
With rising geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan, this mock drill acts as a simulation of a real-world emergency scenario. It will allow authorities to monitor public behavior, response time, and system coordination — crucial elements in saving lives during real attacks or disasters.
But the drill won’t just test the government.
It will test us all.
Will people cooperate? Will citizens help each other? Will panic override patience?
The success of this mock drill depends not on officials, but on the citizens of Bihar. Here’s what YOU should do:
✅ Stay indoors between 6:50 PM and 7:10 PM
✅ Don’t call emergency numbers unless it’s a real emergency
✅ Spread awareness in your housing society or locality
✅ Avoid social media panic or misinformation
✅ Cooperate with police and traffic control units
This is not a curfew. It’s a commitment to collective safety.
The drill across Bihar is part of a nationwide preparedness strategy. Yet Bihar’s participation stands out — especially Patna, with its wide-scale involvement and logistical readiness.
And it’s not just about today.
This is about building a culture of responsiveness for tomorrow.
