Imagine being denied education just because you don’t have an Aadhar card. This is now the harsh reality for over 21 lakh children in Bihar. The Education Ministry has made Aadhar mandatory for students, leaving many without access to essential educational services.
The government’s recent mandate requires all students to have an Aadhar card to access schooling benefits. However, many children in Bihar, especially from rural and economically weaker sections, do not have one. This new rule could push them further away from education rather than making it accessible.
Schools now require Aadhar for enrollment, mid-day meals, and other welfare schemes. While the initiative aims to streamline student records, it also raises concerns about exclusion. Parents and education activists are urging authorities to ensure that children without Aadhar do not lose their right to education.
The reasons vary. Many families lack awareness about the importance of Aadhar registration. Others struggle due to documentation issues or unavailability of enrollment centers in remote areas. As a result, lakhs of students are now in limbo, unable to continue their education without this ID.
Government officials claim they are working on solutions, but the process is slow. Meanwhile, children risk being left behind in their academic journey.
Parents and schools must work together to expedite Aadhar registration for affected children. The government should also introduce temporary exemptions and streamline the registration process in rural areas. Without immediate action, Bihar may witness an alarming increase in school dropouts.
