When exams determine futures, fairness is non-negotiable. Today, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is conducting a re-examination for 12,000 candidates in Patna, following serious allegations of irregularities during the December 13 exam. This crucial step aims to restore trust amidst mounting protests and heightened security.
Why the Re-Examination?
The re-exam specifically addresses concerns about the December test conducted at Bapu Pariksha Parisar, where procedural lapses were reported. Authorities have now split the candidates across 22 centres in Patna to ensure better management and transparency.
Unprecedented Security Measures
In a bid to prevent disruptions, Patna District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar has invoked Section 163 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This bans public gatherings of more than five people within a 100-metre radius of the exam centres. Demonstrations, processions, and even the use of loudspeakers are prohibited.
The restrictions will remain in effect from 8 AM to 5 PM today, particularly impacting prominent centres like P.N. Anglo Sanskrit High School and Government Girls High Secondary School in Shastri Nagar. Candidates are barred from carrying mobile phones or smart devices, ensuring that the examination environment remains secure.
The Protests Continue
Despite these efforts, discontent brews. On Friday, thousands of students took to the streets, disrupting rail and road traffic. Left-aligned student organisations even attempted to march to the Chief Minister’s residence. The protests escalated further as police resorted to force, leaving several demonstrators injured.
Adding fuel to the fire, Jan Suraj Party leader Prashant Kishor has begun an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan. He demands accountability from the police and calls for the cancellation of the exam altogether.
A Critical Test for Authorities and Aspirants
As candidates prepare to rewrite their future, the authorities face the challenge of conducting a smooth and fair examination. The stakes are high for everyone involved.
