Honoring Bihar’s Icons – Legends Who Will Always Be Missed

Bihar bids farewell to three extraordinary souls whose contributions will resonate through generations. Their loss is irreplaceable.

This year, the state mourns the demise of three legendary personalities: Padma Bhushan Dr. Sharda Sinha, Padma Shri Usha Kiran Khan, and Acharya Kishore Kunal. Their legacy, however, will continue to inspire Bihar and the nation.

The Voice of Bihar – Dr. Sharda Sinha

On November 5, Bihar lost its “Bihar Kokila,” Dr. Sharda Sinha. Known for her heartfelt renditions of Chhath Mahaparb songs, she gave her entire life to promoting folk music. Her melodious voice and devotion to Aditya Dev (Sun God) touched millions, making her a cultural icon not just in Bihar but across India.

A Scholar and Philanthropist – Acharya Kishore Kunal

The passing of Acharya Kishore Kunal on December 29,  left the people of Bihar in grief. Known for revolutionizing Mahavir Mandir’s offerings and using its proceeds to fund nine charitable hospitals, he set an unparalleled example of using faith for human service. His contributions will forever remain a beacon of hope and compassion.

A Literary Luminary – Usha Kiran Khan

Padma Shri Usha Kiran Khan, a distinguished author and storyteller, passed away this year, leaving behind a void in the literary world. Writing in Hindi and Maithili, her works earned her national recognition. Her novel Bhamati: Ek Avismaraniya Premkatha won her the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011, showcasing her deep connection to the cultural roots of Bihar.

Their Collective Legacy

These three icons, with their unique talents and contributions, showcased Bihar’s cultural richness to the world. Dr. Sharda Sinha immortalized its folk music, Acharya Kishore Kunal set new benchmarks in philanthropy, and Usha Kiran Khan elevated its literature to global heights.
