When dreams take flight, they often soar above hurdles, crafting a story of courage and innovation. Such is the tale of Pawan Kumar Gupta, a civil engineer turned entrepreneur from Motihari, Bihar, who left behind a secure ₹1 lakh salary to start his own venture, Ruvanya Brand, a bread and rusk manufacturing business under the name Rudra Industries. Operating from Lakshmipur village in the Bagwan Panchayat of Bakri block, Pawan’s journey is not just about business but about creating opportunities and setting an example for budding entrepreneurs in Bihar.
The Pandemic Spark: From Engineer to Entrepreneur
Pawan’s story took a dramatic turn during the COVID-19 pandemic. After graduating in civil engineering from Chennai and securing a stable job in a construction company, he faced health issues that forced him to rethink his future. Leaving behind the corporate grind, he decided to take the entrepreneurial plunge, despite the risks involved.
His vision? To introduce a locally produced, high-quality bread and rusk brand to the regional market. With support from the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme and the Bihar Industry Department, Pawan secured a loan of ₹25 lakh to establish his factory in Lakshmipur village.
Building a Brand: The Birth of Ruvanya
Starting in January 2024, Pawan launched his products under the brand name Ruvanya. Overcoming initial hurdles with branding and market acceptance, his bread and rusk quickly gained traction in markets spanning Bakri, Rosera, Samastipur, and Khagaria.
The factory, employing 8-10 people, produces four types of bread and rusk. The ingredients are sourced from across the country to ensure top-notch quality at affordable prices, aiming to cater to both urban and rural customers.
The Local Impact of a Global Vision
What sets Pawan apart is his commitment to fostering local employment and offering a branded product in a region where such initiatives are scarce. He believes Ruvanya has the potential to become a state-level brand, representing Bihar’s rising entrepreneurial spirit.
With monthly sales reaching ₹4 lakhs and a modest profit of ₹30,000 after expenses, Pawan’s venture is still growing. His brother joins him in marketing efforts, directly engaging with local distributors to expand their reach across Begusarai and beyond.
Challenges and the Road Ahead
Pawan acknowledges the challenges of running an MSME but remains undeterred. His goal is to scale Ruvanya to every corner of Bihar, making it a household name while contributing to the local economy.
He is a testament to the power of schemes like Startup Bihar and PMFME, which provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the financial and structural support needed to realize their dreams.
A Call to Action for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Pawan’s journey is a beacon of hope for anyone looking to transform their ideas into reality. His story proves that with determination, resilience, and the right support, it is possible to create something impactful, even in the face of adversity.
