When disaster strikes, timely support matters most. In flood-ravaged Bihar, over 6.5 lakh families have now received direct financial assistance of ₹7,000 each, giving them a much-needed lifeline.
In a massive relief drive, the Bihar government transferred ₹456.12 crore directly into the bank accounts of 6,51,602 families across 12 flood-hit districts. The relief support comes as torrential rains caused several rivers to overflow, forcing thousands into distress.
The transfer took place at an official event in Patna, ensuring that families didn’t have to wait for help through lengthy processes. By choosing direct benefit transfer, the government made sure the money reached families instantly and transparently.
Earlier, flood-hit families were eligible for ₹6,000 as gratuitous relief. However, the state government recently increased this amount to ₹7,000 per family to provide greater support during recovery.
This one-step increase might look small on paper, but for a family struggling with food, shelter, and daily survival, the difference can be life-changing.
The 12 districts where relief reached include:

Patna
Saran
Vaishali
Samastipur
Begusarai
Lakhisarai
Munger
Khagaria
Bhagalpur
Katihar
These regions faced the worst brunt of overflowing rivers and heavy rainfall. Relief funds are expected to ease immediate struggles as families rebuild.
Looking ahead, the Bihar government has directed senior officials and disaster management teams to remain on high alert. September rains may worsen the flood situation, and authorities are preparing to respond faster.
Key departments, including the Water Resources Department and Disaster Management Ministry, have been instructed to ensure no delay in relief measures.
Natural disasters not only displace families but also disrupt education, healthcare, and livelihood. By transferring relief directly into accounts, the government cut out middlemen, avoided delays, and empowered families to use the money based on their most urgent needs.
