This Raksha Bandhan, the Bihar government is offering something more thoughtful than just wishes — free bus rides for all women and girls across the state on August 9, 2025.
Whether you’re heading to your brother’s home or returning from your rakhi visit, your ride will cost nothing — just bring your love and laughter.
This special initiative will apply to all city buses operated by Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) and the state’s signature pink buses, known for prioritizing women’s safety and accessibility.
From early morning 6 a.m. till late evening, all women and girls can board these buses without a ticket.
However, male passengers must still purchase their tickets as usual.
This thoughtful move isn’t just about saving money — it’s about empowering mobility, family bonding, and cultural pride.
Bihar isn’t alone in celebrating Raksha Bandhan with meaningful actions. States like Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and even Chandigarh have rolled out similar free travel plans for women.
But in Bihar, this gesture has become an annual tradition — a symbol of the state’s growing commitment to women’s safety, rights, and independence.
Transport costs, however small, often become barriers for women — especially those from underserved areas. By offering free rides, the government breaks that barrier, even if for a day.
The impact?
More girls visiting families
More elderly women traveling independently
Less traffic congestion
And most importantly — a sense of belonging and dignity on the roads.
This is public service with emotion — governance with empathy.
While there’s no single celebrity or brand behind the move, the BSRTC (Bihar State Road Transport Corporation) deserves recognition for seamless execution each year.
Transport officials confirm that special monitoring teams will ensure smooth operations on August 9.
If you spot a pink bus that day, just hop on. Your ride, your right.
