In a bold and progressive move, the Bihar government is all set to develop a Mega Township in Darbhanga’s Laheriasarai, transforming this historic region into a modern, self-sufficient city.
Darbhanga isn’t just any town — it’s Bihar’s first planned city, born from the post-1934 earthquake vision. And now, it’s back in the spotlight. Minister Jivesh Mishra, during a site visit, announced that this township will be modeled on Gurugram’s urban development blueprint — featuring skyscrapers, parks, shopping malls, schools, and sports grounds.
Thanks to existing infrastructure like AIIMS, an airport, a planetarium, and an IT Park, Darbhanga is the perfect launchpad for Bihar’s mega urban revolution.
“We are identifying three prime locations for Phase 1,” said Minister Mishra. “These will include schools, sports fields, and lush parks. A detailed map and masterplan are already in progress.”
Unlike traditional urban sprawl, this township is being carefully planned to meet modern needs. Think wide roads, smart utilities, and community spaces. The goal?
To create a self-contained satellite city with everything — commercial complexes, residential towers, educational hubs, and recreational zones.
This development will not just beautify the region but also boost employment opportunities for local youth, thanks to the upcoming industrial townships in 12 districts of Bihar.
This initiative is part of a larger movement to modernize Bihar’s cities. With Darbhanga leading the way, this is more than a construction project. It’s a cultural shift, a long-overdue update to Bihar’s urban identity.
For decades, Biharis have migrated for better living conditions. Now, those same comforts — even aspirations — are returning home.
And guess what? This isn’t the end. Plans for another Satellite City in Darbhanga are already on the table, promising more parks, commercial centers, and smart facilities.
