Want a secure government job with a lasting impact?
Here’s your chance. For the first time in 14 years, the Bihar Education Department has rolled out a plan to hire 6,500 librarians in government schools across the state. This much-awaited announcement brings hope to thousands of qualified candidates who’ve been waiting for such an opportunity.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will conduct the recruitment. The education department has already drafted the rules. Officials have sent the draft to the Finance and Law departments for clearance. After that, the State Cabinet will give the final nod.
To ensure completion before the Assembly elections, the department is moving fast. Once approved, the BPSC will release the official notification and exam schedule.
Most importantly, this recruitment is permanent. Selected candidates will receive state employee status, with all associated benefits.
While the exact figure isn’t released yet, the salary is expected to match that of high school teachers. According to the BPSC TRE 3.0:
Teachers in Grades 9–10 earn ₹31,000/month
Teachers in Grades 11–12 earn ₹32,000/month
So, librarians can expect a similar pay scale. In addition, the job comes with:
DA (Dearness Allowance)
HRA (House Rent Allowance)
New Pension Scheme benefits
Retirement age fixed at 60 years
Moreover, reservation rules and age relaxation will follow state government guidelines.
BPSC will conduct a 100-mark written test. The format will include multiple-choice questions (MCQs). To everyone’s relief, the test won’t have negative marking.
The likely subjects are:
Library Science
General Knowledge
Bihar’s current and cultural affairs
So, brushing up on these topics can give you an edge.
To apply, you must hold either of these:
A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science (BLIS)
A Master’s degree in Library Science (MLIS)
Age criteria and other conditions will be available once the official notification is out. Therefore, stay alert and get your documents in order.
Currently, only 1,696 librarians work in Bihar’s higher secondary schools. Clearly, the state needs more. This recruitment aims to improve library access, boost reading habits, and support quality education.
More librarians mean better academic environments, especially in rural and semi-urban schools. The move also supports knowledge equity across Bihar.
