From Bihar to the Big League: JK Cement’s Buxar Plant Pushes India’s Cement Power Past 31 MTA
Bihar is no longer waiting on the sidelines. Instead, it is stepping confidently into India’s industrial spotlight. And now, one of the country’s biggest cement players has chosen Buxar as its next growth engine.
On 30 January 2026, JK Cement officially commissioned its state-of-the-art grey cement plant in Buxar, Bihar. With this move, the company crossed a historic milestone—31.26 million tonnes per annum (MTA) in total cement capacity. As a result, JK Cement now stands firmly among India’s top five grey cement manufacturers.
More importantly, this moment signals Bihar’s rising role in India’s infrastructure story.
The newly commissioned Buxar plant adds 3 MTA to JK Cement’s overall capacity. Therefore, it strengthens the company’s national manufacturing network at a crucial time.
Spread across 100 acres, the plant sits strategically on the Patna–Buxar highway. Because of this location, distribution across Bihar and neighbouring states becomes faster and far more efficient.
Earlier, JK Cement entered Bihar in 2025 through supplies from its Prayagraj plant. However, local manufacturing now changes the game. Deliveries across the state can happen within 24 hours, improving service speed and reliability.
According to Dr Raghavpat Singhania, Managing Director of JK Cement, the Buxar commissioning marks a critical step in expanding the company’s national footprint. At the same time, it aligns closely with Bihar’s long-term development vision.
Meanwhile, Madhavkrishna Singhania, Joint MD & CEO, highlighted another key advantage. Local production, he said, will significantly enhance service levels. Additionally, it will strengthen JK Cement’s presence in a high-growth market driven by infrastructure momentum.
Clearly, this expansion is not just about numbers. Instead, it reflects a long-term commitment to regional growth.
JK Cement invested approximately ₹500 crore in the Buxar project. Construction began in March 2025, and commercial production started on 29 January 2026—right on schedule.
Because of this investment, the impact goes far beyond cement output. The plant will support housing, commercial construction, and large infrastructure projects across Bihar. Moreover, it is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment.
As jobs grow, ancillary industries will follow. Consequently, Buxar is fast emerging as a new industrial hotspot in eastern India.
This commissioning carries a deeper message. Bihar is becoming a serious destination for large-scale manufacturing. Furthermore, national brands now see the state as a growth partner, not just a market.
JK Cement’s move reflects confidence in Bihar’s improving logistics, infrastructure, and policy environment. At the same time, it reshapes perceptions around industrial development in the region.
Step by step, Bihar’s growth story is turning structural—and irreversible.
