Author: Bihar Say | Amrita | Bihar Politics Takes a Sharp Turn: Nitish Kumar’s Big Move Sets Stage for New NDA Government Bihar woke up to a wave
Bihar woke up to a wave of curiosity, speculation, and quick political shifts. Yet the story is simple. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will step down on 19 November, only to clear the path for a new NDA government that may again see him in the top seat. The oath ceremony will take place tomorrow at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
This update has sparked fresh conversations across the state. People want clarity. They want facts. They want to know what comes next. This blog gives you that clarity without political commentary and without bias.
Nitish Kumar met Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and informed him of the cabinet’s decision to dissolve the current assembly. He will submit his resignation today at around 3:30 pm, which will formally begin the transition to the new government.
JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chowdhary confirmed that Nitish will step down as head of the outgoing government. However, alliance leaders continue to hint that he could soon return as the chief minister for the 10th time.
The new NDA-led government will take oath at 11 am, on 20 November. The event will be grand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, key Union ministers, and chief ministers of several NDA-ruled states will attend the ceremony. Preparations at Gandhi Maidan are in full swing, and Nitish Kumar inspected the arrangements himself.
This will be the fourth major oath-taking ceremony held at this venue. Only in 2020, due to Covid, did the event shift to Raj Bhavan.
Leaders from both BJP and JD(U) will meet today to finalise major decisions. These meetings will indicate who the deputy chief minister will be and how portfolios will be shared.
The BJP and JD(U) are especially focused on the home and education ministries. Both ministries carry strategic weight.
Interestingly, some NDA leaders have hinted at “surprise elements” in the new cabinet. They expect a mix of young faces and experienced names to match the mandate and the expectations.
In the outgoing government, Bihar had two deputy chief ministers—Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha. Both have won again. However, the final decision depends on today’s discussions.
The JD(U) prefers having only one deputy CM, especially if the BJP takes the Speaker’s post.
The NDA is considering a balanced formula:
One ministerial position for every six MLAs.
Based on this calculation:
LJP(RV) may get three berths
RLM and HAM(S) may get one each
The remaining 30–31 seats will go to BJP and JD(U)
Since Bihar has 243 seats, the Constitution allows a maximum of 36 ministers, including the chief minister.
The NDA secured a massive majority this time:
BJP: 89
JD(U): 85
LJP (Ram Vilas): 19
HAM(S): 5
Rashtriya Lok Morcha: 4
Together, they won 202 seats, leaving the Mahagathbandhan with only 35 seats.
Bihar stands at the edge of a major political reset. The oath tomorrow will determine the new cabinet, the new direction, and the new pace of governance. This moment is important for every citizen who follows Bihar’s development, administration, and future roadmap.
For now, the state waits for the next 24 hours to unfold.
