Bihar Leads the Way! 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas Approved, 19 Coming to Bihar

Education in India just received a massive push — and Bihar is at the forefront. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across 17 states and Union Territories. Remarkably, 19 of these will be in Bihar, making it the state with the largest share.

Why Bihar Gets the Maximum Share

Bihar is witnessing a rapid rise in central government employees. Consequently, the demand for quality education for their children has surged. KVs are expanding aggressively in Bihar, aiming to meet this growing need.

Moreover, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized that these schools will serve aspirational districts, Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas, and hilly regions. Therefore, children in underserved communities will finally access quality education.

In addition, this expansion brings opportunity, hope, and progress. For thousands of children in Bihar, these schools will open doors to a brighter future.

What Makes These KVs Special?

These schools will cover Balvatika (pre-primary) to Class 12 and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Specifically:

  • 50 schools will receive sponsorship from state governments and UT administrations.

  • 7 schools will be sponsored by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education estimates that the project will cost ₹5,862.55 crore over nine years, including capital and operational expenses.

As a result, children will benefit from high-quality infrastructure and modern learning facilities, while states gain new opportunities for education-driven development.

Impact on Students and Jobs

Currently, 1,288 KVs operate across India, including branches in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran, serving over 13.62 lakh students.

With the 57 new KVs:

  • Around 86,640 students will gain access to quality education.

  • Nearly 4,617 permanent teaching jobs will be created.

  • Children of central government employees will receive uniform standards of education nationwide.

Importantly, this approval comes after the government sanctioned 85 new KVs in December 2024. Thus, the recent expansion addresses rising demand while ensuring pan-India reach.

A New Dawn for Bihar’s Education

For Bihar, this marks a historic milestone. With 19 new KVs, many families in underserved districts will finally enjoy high-quality, affordable education. Additionally, the schools will nurture children from foundational years, preparing them for competitive exams and global opportunities.

This move is not merely policy — it reflects a promise to Bihar’s youth. Education, access, and opportunity are now closer than ever.
