Patna on High Alert: 80-Foot Ravana Effigy, Strict Traffic Plan & Massive Security at Gandhi Maidan
Patna is buzzing with excitement as the city prepares for Vijayadashami at Gandhi Maidan. This year’s Ravana Dahan will feature an 80-foot Ravana effigy, effigies of Meghnath and Kumbhakarna, and strict traffic and security measures. Thousands are expected to attend, so the administration has unveiled a comprehensive plan to manage the crowd effectively.
Heightened Security Measures
Preparations are in full swing. On Monday, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh and Inspector General of Police Jitendra Rana reviewed the arrangements and instructed local officials to maintain order. They emphasized that Gandhi Maidan will operate as a fixed-venue, fixed-time celebration.
The administration divided Gandhi Maidan into four sectors, each monitored by an Additional District Magistrate and a Deputy Superintendent of Police. In total, 103 magistrates will actively manage 49 locations. Furthermore, three Quick Response Teams will assist in emergencies.
The security setup includes:
-
128 CCTV cameras
-
10 watchtowers with Civil Defence staff
-
34 light towers, 136 LED metal lights, 229 pole lights, and 15 high-mast lights
Meanwhile, police bike squads will patrol continuously. Visitors must enter through gates 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 12, while media personnel will use gate 13. Vehicles cannot enter the Maidan. Additionally, nine ambulances with medical teams will stay ready for emergencies.
Spectacular Effigies and Fireworks
The festival promises a breathtaking display. At 5:45 p.m., the 80-foot Ravana effigy, designed by Agra-based artists, will ignite. Beside it, a 75-foot Meghnath and a 70-foot Kumbhakarna will burn simultaneously. Additionally, an elaborate fireworks show will light up the evening sky.
Consequently, families will enjoy a vivid celebration of the triumph of good over evil. Therefore, attending early and following safety rules will enhance the experience.
Strict Traffic Rules Around Gandhi Maidan
From 11 a.m. on October 2, Patna Police will enforce strict traffic regulations. Authorities closed several roads near Gandhi Maidan and allowed only VIP or pass-holding vehicles at select points.
Key restrictions include:

-
Emergency vehicles can use the JP Golambar–Children’s Park stretch

Citizens’ Cooperation is Key
Traffic police, home guards, and flying squads will actively monitor all critical points. Authorities have already set up barricades and checkpoints. CCTV cameras will continue recording throughout the day.
Officials urged citizens to avoid unnecessary vehicle movement near Gandhi Maidan. Instead, people should use public transport or walk to the venue. Consequently, these efforts will ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all.
