Bihar is shifting gears. And this time, it’s not a small step but a giant leap. The state’s first-ever expressway is on its way, and Samastipur is set to become a central player in this transformation. With 30 villages aligned on the new route, this infrastructure project promises to change the face of connectivity, agriculture, and local economy.
The Aurangabad-Darbhanga Expressway (NH-119D) is being developed under the Bharatmala Project. This 209-kilometre stretch will not only bridge major cities but also pass through approximately 30 villages in Samastipur. Consequently, these villages will receive a direct boost in road connectivity, leading to enhanced economic activity.
Moreover, the third package of the expressway will focus on this region. As construction accelerates, local residents are already seeing changes that were unthinkable a few years ago.
The impact on agriculture is going to be significant. With faster transport, farmers will gain better access to urban markets, thus reducing spoilage and transportation delays. Additionally, logistics and supply chain companies are expected to find new opportunities, fostering rural entrepreneurship.
As a result, small-scale farming communities may finally transition into commercial agribusinesses. This means higher income, more jobs, and less migration to cities.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this expressway is its strategic alignment. For the first time, Patna, Darbhanga, and Gaya airports will be connected via a single route.
The distance from Samastipur to Patna will reduce from 100 km to just 65 km.
The distance to Darbhanga Airport will shrink to 35 km.
This massive change will streamline travel and logistics, making it easier for businesses and tourists alike. Furthermore, the improved accessibility is likely to attract new investments in education, healthcare, and retail sectors.
While rural areas benefit from the expressway, urban Samastipur isn’t left behind. A link road is under construction at the 6th km of the Samastipur-Tajpur Road. This road will directly connect city residents to the expressway.
Because of this, traffic congestion on Tajpur Road is expected to ease. In turn, daily commutes will become faster, safer, and more reliable for thousands of people.
Near Garuara on the Samastipur-Pusa Road, a major bridge is being constructed. Locals describe the pace of work as ‘war-level’. Significantly, this bridge will be essential to the seamless operation of the expressway.
Due to this aggressive timeline, the region is witnessing rapid structural changes. With every passing day, the project inches closer to becoming a reality that can no longer be ignored.
For decades, Bihar’s development has been held back by poor infrastructure. However, this expressway signals a powerful shift. It is not just about reduced distances; it is about expanding opportunities.
It’s about giving farmers, students, entrepreneurs, and families access to the world they were once cut off from.
If you believe in Bihar’s future, now is the time to stay connected.
