Social Impact

Bihar is home to over 12,000 registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profits, and charitable foundations, though only a fraction are actively running extensive, transparent operations on the ground.
Among these, several organisations are widely recognised by international bodies and local communities for doing exceptional, high-impact work:

1. Education & Youth Empowerment Pratham: One of India's largest education initiatives, heavily active across Bihar. They focus on high-quality, low-cost interventions to bridge learning gaps for underprivileged children.

Shoshit Seva Sangh (SSS): This foundation specifically focuses on providing fully free, high-quality residential schooling to the Musahar community, one of the most marginalised and socio-economically disadvantaged communities in Bihar.

1. Healthcare & Blindness Eradication Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital: Based in Saran, this is one of the largest single-specialty eye hospitals in Eastern India.

Operated by the Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust, they perform tens of thousands of free eye surgeries annually to eliminate curable blindness in rural Bihar.

Bihar Voluntary Health Association (BVHA): Serving since 1970, BVHA functions as an umbrella network coordinating public health camps, reproductive child healthcare, and disaster-relief operations across rural districts.

1. Rural Development & Agriculture Kaushalya Foundation: Focuses on creating sustainable livelihood models for small and marginal farmers. They train farmers in climate-smart agriculture and establish direct market linkages to increase rural incomes.

Nidan: An exceptionally prominent organisation that champions the rights of informal sector workers, street vendors, and ragpickers. They offer financial inclusion through microfinance, legal aid, and social security programs.

1. Human Rights & Social Justice

Jan Sahas: Highly acclaimed for its intense grassroots work in eliminating forced labour, manual scavenging, and gender-based violence. They focus on survivor rehabilitation and legal advocacy.
